Mr D approached Stephen McCaffrey, joint head of chamber, to take on his case having been recommended by his co-respondent in a Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) proceedings.
Following a SRA investigation costing well over £100,000, allegations were made against Mr D in respect of various regulatory breaches in the running and management of his firm both generally and specifically. The allegations revolved around management of significant numbers of holiday sickness claims.
Following intense and protracted representations and negotiations lead by Stephen, the SRA accepted, and the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal approved an agreed outcome, which limited costs to £1500 (as opposed to £173,000 requested), a one year suspension followed by conditions.
Stephen, commenting on the outcome of the case observed that:
“Mr D undoubtedly faced much more severe sanctions and significantly more financial liability. The success was founded on a sensible and agreed strategy from which we did not waiver.”
Following the outcome of the case, Mr D said:
“I was introduced to Stephen through my co-respondent in respect of an SRA referral. Stephen provided clear and well thought out advice and assisted me in coalescing my thoughts and instructions. He successfully negotiated a settlement that was exactly in line with my best likely outcome. I would thoroughly recommend his services.”
