The Health & Care Professionals Council (HCPC) has announced plans to support ‘former registrants’ to maintain their fitness to practise.

The HCPC said it “recognise the challenges that former registrants might face in meeting our returning to practice requirements” and is “providing added flexibility, whilst continuing to assure those we register are fit to practise safely and effectively.”

The HCPC’s requirement for registrants to evidence their ability to meet HCPC standards will remain unchanged, it will “provide flexibility on alternative forms of ‘formal study’ and what type of evidence we accept as proof of ‘supervised practice’.”

The HCPC also said it would temporarily be extending the timescales from the usual 12 months to 24 months to enable more time for returnees to complete their period of updating.
