Kings View Chambers success in GMC suspension case

Kings View Chambers successfully assisted and represented another doctor this month with a review of a substantive suspension.

The doctor had been suspended for 9 months for issues relating to dishonesty during a CQC inspection and at later appraisals.

Stephen McCaffrey, GMC defence barrister and joint-head of chambers, said:

“This case demonstrates the importance of preparing properly and thoroughly for a review hearing as it is far from automatic that a doctor will be restored after suspension without restriction.

“Too often doctors simply assume that once a suspension period is completed that they will be restored to the register easily. The burden is on the doctor to persuade the Tribunal that their fitness to practise is no longer impaired, that they have remediated for their past misconduct and that they have kept up to date.”

Dr AA said:

“I would like to use this opportunity to say a very big thank you to Kings View Chambers for the excellent legal service/representation that I was provided with in August 2020.

“Thank you for taking me step by step through the process from the preparation for the tribunal to the actual tribunal itself. I am most grateful and thankful for the outcome of my GMC Registration getting reinstated. You had the utmost professionalism through the process.”
